SMTP Mail Gateways

Total Web Solutions now use inbound SMTP gateways to help stop UCE, Viruses and general SPAM. The systems use Postfix, Spam Assassin & ClamAV in order to eliminate as much rubbish as possible so that our customers dont get mailboxes filled with trash.

Postfix uses a number of methods in order to identify possible senders of rubbish email.

Spam Assassin uses rules that score the content of messages. If a message obtains a score less than 2 the message is allowed on its way (with Spam Assassin headers added to it). With a score of 2 - 5 the message has its Subject changed to include a ***SPAM*** warning. A score above 5 but below 10 means the message is blocked and notification sent to the sender. A score above 10 means the message is discarded and no notifications will be given.

ClamAV is used to scan for viruses in all messages with attachments. The content of archive files is also checked.

If you are having trouble sending email via our inbound SMTP gateways please make sure your mail server has its DNS correctly setup and accessible to the world. We need to be able to correctly resolve and check DNS information prior to accepting any email.

Also ensure you have a valid From: address with a valid Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).
